Today, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS) is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the treatment of chronic sinus inflammations, sinus tumors, anterior skull base injuries, trauma-related eyeball injuries and pressure on the optic nerve. The operation has been successfully performed by Op. Dr. Nazlı Selvi for many years. Information about the post-operative situation is provided by Op. Dr. Nazlı Selvi and her team. Here, patients are advised to stay in the hospital on the day of surgery. However, depending on the content of the surgery, they can be discharged on the same day. It is recommended to give antibiotics for at least 10 days after surgery, this period may be extended or additional medications may be added as needed.
Sprays containing sterile saline that mechanically cleanses the nose and moisturizes the nose should be used until the formation of crusts in the nose is over. In patients with allergies or polyps, postoperative cortisone sprays and medications that reduce the risk of polyp formation are recommended. With the intervention of Op. Dr. Nazlı Selvi, endoscopic wound care is performed 3-4 times after the surgery. At the end of the second week, a detailed procedure is performed, the crusts formed in the nose and the sinus drainage channels are cleaned, and if there are substances that prevent adhesion to the sinuses, they are removed. Afterwards, our surgeon Op. Dr. Nazlı Selvi evaluates wound infection.
The performance of comprehensive wound care here is crucial to the long-term success of the surgery. Patients have to come to the controls at intervals of 7 to 10 days until the completion of the recovery according to the extent of the operation.
